The OC. Newport, California. If you ask Kim Smith (formerly Kim Beaumont) the facade that the TV show created of the perfect life is just a joke. Kim was born in Newport March 27, 1984 to two of the most influential business people in the town. Her parents were the owners of the Newport Country Club, but their job was their baby more than Kim was. It was a well known fact that they hadn't meant to get pregnant with Kim, and unfortunately they treated her like a mistake. Until she was about 13 years old she tired to get their attention by doing well in school, but when that didn't work she turned to harsher things. Fighting. Drugs. Sex. You name it and she was into it. It wasn't until she nearly got expelled from school for fighting with another girl that they even tried to take notice, but their way of dealing with it was to put her in dance classes to give her something to do. Little did they know that she'd actually like it. Unfortunately, she was outcast by the girls she danced with and because she refused to conform she turned to other interests. Still drugs. Still sex. Still pulling off pranks that would risk expulsion from school. She picked up another hobby too though, photography. Because everything else she'd done had been rejected she kept that quiet. It was her release.
It was that hobby that brought her to the beach where she met her husband. She was 17, on probation, and struggling to get emancipated from her parents. On this day she was at the beach trying to relax and taking a couple of pictures, and she ran into a boy, Brian. He'd change her life, and she didn't know it.
They eloped in December of 2002 after they'd moved to Los Angeles to get Kim away from Newport where she could stay less stressed for the baby she was carrying. Three days later, December 27, 2002, their first son, Logan Tanner Smith was born. Unfortunately he was very very early and they spent the next six weeks with him in the hospital. Kim still managed though to finish high school and be a mom. It was about a year after Logan was born that she began pursuing her photography even more. She took a few photography classes at UCLA that worked around her schedule of taking care of Logan, and finally, last year after another move she opened her own gallery, Galaxy, which is located in Walnut Creek.
Also last year, they added another addition to their family Corbin Michael Smith. He turned a year old on January 10. If you ask Kim, she'd never planned on being a mother. It was the furthest thing from her mind because she knew how she'd grown up. That view changed when she got pregnant the first time and she had to grow up fast. Her little boys are the most important things in her life and she couldn't be happier. She is also hoping that in the next year or two, they can add another addition to their family.
In addition to her photography, Kim has been known to do some modeling. She's definitely more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it but an agent approached her one day at her shop and asked her if she'd be interested in it and she tried it out. For now though, it has been put on the back burner to her gallery. A recent flood at her gallery has caused it to close and she is working on re-opening it as soon as possible.
